Dr James Mackay

Main specialities:cancer genetics, inherited cancer, cancer screening, and the introduction of complex genetic tests into clinical cancer care.

Dr James Mackay is the only accredited consultant medical oncologist with a special interest in cancer genetics in the U.K. He set up regional cancer genetics services in East Anglia and North East Thames, and has developed a remote cancer genetics service, using real time tele-conferencing technology, based in Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust. He holds honourary consultant contracts at several large London teaching hospitals. 

Dr Mackay is the clinical principal investigator of an evaluation of regular mammography in women under 50 with a family history of breast cancer funded by the NHD Research and Development programme. He leads the genetic breast cancer trial, which is a trial of chemotherapy in women with breast cancer, who carry a faulty breast cancer gene. This is the first randomised trial of chemotherapy based on inherited genetic make-up in the world. Dr Mackay is an honourary senior lecturer in the Department of Biology, University College London and has been recently appointed as Medical Director of Opaldia Limited.

 
Dr Elisabeth Rosser FRCP, MBBS, BSc
 
Main interests: general genetics, retinoblastoma and Huntington’s Disease.
 
Dr Elisabeth Rosser qualified from St Bartholomews Hospital in 1986. As part of her medical training she attained a BSc in Genetics. After qualifying she worked in several different specialities including Gynaecology, Accident and Emergency and Paediatrics before training in Adult Medicine, passing the MRCP examination and specialising in Clinical Genetics. She did her training in Clinical Genetics in Oxford and at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. She was appointed to a consultant post in the North East Thames Regional Genetics Service at Great Ormond St Hospital in 1997 and continues to work there. She undertakes clinics at several different sites in East London.
Dr Rosser is also a College Officer at the Royal College of Physicians where she has established Patient and Carer Involvement in all aspects of the work of the College.
